IMD Signage Player

Software with nothing to renew.

Our own Android player runs your show from a card, a stick or your own server. It is free, with no subscription and no account. On a display from the cart, you load it from the download below. On a ready-to-play quote, we install and test it.

What this page describes is how the software is designed to behave. It has been tested on the Android 12 emulator, and testing on a real unit is pending.

Starts by itself

Set up as the home app, the player brings the show up full screen at power-on, with no launcher and no keyboard.

Plays with no network

Images and MP4 from microSD or USB. A copy is kept in internal memory, so the show carries on when the card comes out.

Portrait or landscape

Rotation is one setting. Hang the same unit either way.

Sync, if you want it

Optional HTTPS sync pulls a playlist from your own web server on a schedule. Nothing to subscribe to.

Staff PIN

A hidden, PIN-protected menu lets your team reload a card or check the screen without opening the case.

Recovers on its own

If the app crashes, it is designed to relaunch itself and go back to playing.

On and off hours

Set a daily on time and off time. Outside those hours it shows black at minimum brightness, because the app cannot switch the backlight off.

Crossfades

Slides crossfade by default. Set a longer fade, up to 5 seconds, or a hard cut.

Sound off by default

Videos play muted unless you turn sound on in the settings.

Four steps

From a folder to a running screen.

  1. 01

    Make a folder

Name it IMD_SIGNAGE on any microSD card or USB stick. Our free card tool can build it for you in the browser.

  2. 02

    Drop in your files

Pictures and MP4 video. File names set the order: 01-, 02-, 03-. Add _15s to a name to hold that slide for 15 seconds.

  3. 03

    Put the card in

The screen copies the show into its own memory and starts playing it. Leave the card in, or take it out after a minute.

  4. 04

    Walk away

It starts by itself when the power comes on, loops without a network and has no account to keep paying for.

No account and no subscription. Would you rather have it loaded for you? Ask for a ready-to-play quote: we set it up and test it before it ships.

  1. 01

Copy it to a USB stick

Copy the APK to a USB stick and plug the stick into the display.

  2. 02

    Open the file

Open the APK from the display's file manager. When Android asks, allow "install unknown apps" for the file manager.

  3. 03

    Allow file access

Open IMD Signage Player. On its One-time setup screen, tap the button and allow all files access.

  4. 04

    Make it the home app

Press Home, pick IMD Signage Player and choose Always, so it comes up at every start.

  5. 05

    Load your show

Make a folder named IMD_SIGNAGE on a microSD card or USB stick, add your files and put it in. The card tool builds the folder. Set your own staff PIN there, since the next step asks for it.

  6. 06

    Finish in the menus

Tap the top-left corner 5 times within 3 seconds and enter your PIN, then allow Display over other apps. In Android Settings, set the screen timeout to its longest and the app's battery use to Unrestricted.

On the card

This is the whole system.

Files play in name order, then loop. Pictures hold for 10 seconds unless the name or settings say otherwise. Anything in a subfolder is not played.

Pictures can be JPG, PNG or WebP. Video can be MP4, M4V or WebM, and H.264 MP4 is the one we recommend, since H.265 and VP9 depend on the unit.

PowerPoint, PDF, Word, HEIC and GIF do not play. Export them as PNG or JPG first.
